Chapter 9 and Stem-Changing Verb Test

Obviously, you are all aware that there will be quizzes both Tuesday 3/27 and Wednesday 3/28 on the ‘boot’ verbs that are stem-changers.  A Quizlet set for the infinitives [Tuesday’s test] is available here.  You need to know the definitions of the infinitives.  In addition to studying for Tuesday’s quiz, you should get ready for Wednesday.  Wednesday’s quiz will be more challenging.

These quizlet sets for your practice pleasure will help you practice for Wednesday’s test as well.

Once you’ve got these stem-changing verbs mastered, you need to get working on the vocabulary from the Unit.  For your practice pleasure, here’s a quizlet set created especially for you.  It includes all the literal phrases, questions, and vocabulary from chapter 9.  These are the items, along with the stem-changing verbs, most likely to be on the next unit test to be held sometime before break.  You should be investing at least fifteen minutes each night to master the verbs and vocabulary.

What is good about the practice test on the book material is that it forces you to respond with very accurate responses.  Don’t settle for close answers.  If there is a period in the question, there should be a period in the answer.  If you need an accent mark, use it.  Your test will be scored with accurate spelling, use of articles, and an exact understanding of the vocabulary and phrases.  The written chapter test will expect the same level of accuracy.  Why lose 20% of the points available on a question by missing the accent mark?

What’s not ideal about this test is that there are subtleties in translation.  The question “¿Qué te duele?” is translated by the book as “Where does it hurt?”.  I’d have translated it “What is hurting you?”.  Both are accurate.  For the quizlet set, we’ll stick to what the book says.  Once you’ve mastered the vocabulary, you can then quibble about what the best translation looks like.
